We read and listen to money advice from people all over the internet but if God himself offered you advice will you take it? Read these Bible verses about money that will revolutionise your finance and avoid getting into bad debt.
I saw it fit to share what the Bible teaches about money especially if you are on a debt free journey.
These godly money tips go against the grain in terms of money advice but I hope you can get some money inspiration from these bible verses.
The book of Proverbs gives some really practical instructions on the use of money. We tend to be comfortable in our bad money habits but if we take the time to make a change we will learn good habits on how to use money more wisely.
Be generous in giving
Proverbs 11: 24- One person gives freely, yet gains even more yet another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
It’s natural to hold on to our money when we do not have much but God teaches us that we need to give even during difficult times. This breaks the possibility of making our money the ruler of lives and encourages us to trust in God more. From a personal experience, our monthly income has been halved over the last 2 years yet we manage to survive every month without getting into excessive debt. With that, we tithe every month without fail.

Store up for the future
Proverbs 21: 20 The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.
No matter how much money you make. Make sure you build a habit of saving. It could be as little as £1, I personally use a chip account. It is a modern way of savings, it’s an app that uses an algorithm that calculates your spending and calculates how much you can save automatically. They offer up to 5% interest rate which is higher than the average high street bank which offers no more than 1.2%. Have long-term and short-term savings in addition to this saving scheme is ideal.

Be careful about borrowing
Proverbs 22 vs 7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.
This is a key fundamental principle to avoid getting into bad debt. Be careful about borrowing, we live in a microwave generation meaning ‘if we want something, we want it now, no matter how much it cost’. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. The only exception will probably be a mortgage and maybe a business.
Place people’s needs above profit
Proverbs 11 vs 26 - People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
As the scripture teaches. If you have, share. Help others and others will help you back. Holding onto everything you have brings a curse onto your life.
Be cautious of countersigning for another
Proverbs 22 vs 26-27 Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; 27 if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you.
God is in support of encouraging others NOT to get into debt without being able to pay back. Be careful who you support when it comes to loans and debts.
Don’t accept bribes
Proverbs 17: 23 The wicked accept bribes in secret to pervert the course of justice.
Don’t be the person who cuts corners to make money.
Help the poor
Proverbs 17 vs 23 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.
Be open to helping others, it could be a friend or a neighbour. Be willing to share what you have and God will honour you as the scripture PROMISES
